From the days of old I’d pick Leonardo Da Vinci (a famous polymath and inventor of a 1000 things 🙂 as well as sculptor, painter… the list goes on) and Alexander Graham Bell (inventor of the telephone).

From the modern engineers, I’d pick Elon Musk and Bill Gates – it’s amazing what they have achieved in such a small time frame! Elon Musk made great strides in self-driving cars and cheap space flights, among other things. Bill Gates is the person behind Microsoft – one of the biggest IT companies there are. He made computers mainstream, by and large.

I think I would choose three engineers.

The first one would be Stefan Odobleja (the father of Cybernetics). He was a Romanian scientist and he was the one that laid the the theoretical foundations of the generalised cybernetics. The reason why I choose him is because I consider he helped get where we are now quite a lot. That, and the fact that the high school I went to was called Stefan Odobleja.

After that I would choose Henri Coanda. Again a Romanian inventor, aerodynamics pioneer, and the one who discovered the Coanda effect.

My third choice would be Hedy Lamarr. She was an Austrian inventor and actress. She basically laid the basics of Wi-Fi Networks and Bluetooth.

I have two, if that’s not cheating too much.

Hady Lamarr who was an austrian film star, who also was an engineer and worked on technology that was the beginning of WiFi

      and

Dorothy Vaughan who was an engineer at NASA, she was one of the early computers, which used to be women who caluculated maths by hand before electronic computers were invented, and then when NASA bought electronic computers to replace the women, she became one of the first programmers. She is one of the women that the film Hidden Figures is about. 🙂
