I haven’t actually participated in any competitions, unless if it was as a judge. I did use to participate in Maths competitions when I was in school and I used to get really good results. I got first place only for one of them.

I’d have to dig up my certificates to tell you all the details, but I was addicted to subject-specific competitions back in school!

I’d participate in everything I could get a place at: English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry… oh, and if you participated in any of those, you’d have gotten a day free of school, so that was part of the motivation 🙂

I scored first in most school-wide competitions, and got second or third in the region-wide ones 🙂

      EDIT:

Just looked through my school competition certificates – I’ve won something in at least 15 of the subject-speicific competitions throughout my school years 🙂

I’ve not been to any competitions in my current job, but I’ve been involved in a few competitions with my STEM work and in previous jobs.

I used to work in F1 as a car designer, so every race weekend was a bit like a big competition. It was very exciting to watch the races hope your team would win. When I was at Mercedes we won a couple of races, so the whole team got a glass of champagne at Monday lunchtime

Now I volunteer with a local school, supporting their after school robotics club. The school has several teams in the VEX robotics championships. In fact they were competing at the national finals at the Big Bang Fair at the NEC today.

It’s a great competition – if you think it’s something your school might be interested in you can read a bit more about it here: http://www.vexrobotics.com/competition/
