I am part of a University, but we do have an innovation centre that offers this type of positions.

I certainly remember my Uni taking people as research assistants. There were some summer internships advertised as well.

So, check the web sites 🙂

Yes – at the moment I’m looking after an intern who is working with us for a year before going back to university to finish his studies.

We also take on several week long work experience students (age 14 and up) each summer. Also 2-3 month summer placement students who are usually 16/17 and some apprentices too.

Getting experience as early as possible is a great idea. It gives you lots to talk about in university or job interviews. If you are anywhere near Rugby, let me know and I’m sure I could help arrange some work experience 🙂

I work for a university and not a company, but they would take on people for experience/internships but not apprenticeships as that is more specific a scheme, in Scotland at least, and you need to go to a specialised place for that.

But if you wanted to come and work on a certain project, they would be more than happy, they just might not be able to pay you unfortunately
