When we have humanoids robots (like the ones in my photos), we want them to have a human-like behaviour as well. A factory robot, for example, does the same thing over and over again, and it stays in the same place all the time. With a humanoid robot, you cannot predict what it will do. Maybe an object will appear in its path, which was not there a few minutes before that. You do not want the robot to continue walking and hit the object. You want it to do what we would do… avoid it.

This means we cannot predict the movements. A humanoid robot also has more sensors and joints, comparing to a factory robot. All this things make it more difficult to have a humanoid robot walking without falling.

An example of scenario I am working on is grasping things accurately. You wouldn’t want the robot to “try” and grab the object from the table over and over again. You want it to say “ok! There is the object, These are the coordinates.” and then just move its arm to that exact location. And we want to do this without any human getting involved.
