An engineer can be loads of things. You can have an engineer that works in constructions (civil engineer or architectural engineer), you can have an engineer that works on the software part of things (software engineer or computer engineer), or you can have an engineer that works on managing the activities from different engineering fields (management engineering). Engineering is a very broad field, so an engineer can choose to work in many areas.

Engineers are people who turn design ideas and scientific discoveries into practical applied solutions. Where Einstein came up with relativity, engineers came up with satellites and GPS, for example.

It’s a bit weird to be a designer/engineer and a scientist at the same time in academic field, where I am, as the requirements are a bit different, but building, testing, and making things work is an essential part, I’d say.

Great question. Well where can I start – the word Engineer actually comes from the latin word ingeniare which means to invent or devise. So I think that’s probably a good description – someone who invents and creates things.

I like to describe myself as a professional problem solver! I think nearly all my work can be broken down into mini technical problems that I work together with my team to solve.
