• Question: I've been to the Jaguar car plant in Caslte Bromwich and seen everything they do. How difficult is it to program some of the things they do?

      Hi ZForZoe – for somewhere as big as Castle Bromwich we actually program the robots in virtual reality first. So before we install anything in real life we build up the whole factory in CAD including really accurate models of the robots.

      The robot programmers then use this to write all the code to tell the robots when and how to move.

      Once the robots are installed in the factory, the ‘virtual reality’ programs are downloaded onto the real life robot. Because the robots might have been installed a few centimeters away from where they are in CAD a robot programmer then makes a few adjustments at the factory to make sure everything runs smoothly.

      It normally takes between 50 – 100 hours of programming per robot (in virtual reality and real life) to get the factory up to full speed.
