I think we will, however, we are still very far away from achieving that.

I have certainly worked with fabrics that can contract and expand, so the coats are not far away!

Hoverboards pose a much larger challenge, so we’ll probably have to wait a while longer before those show up at an affordable price.

If you look for something from Back to the Future which may come soon, that would be flying cars 🙂 I think the first prototype should be tested by the end of this year. Check it out here: http://money.cnn.com/2015/03/17/autos/aeromobil-flying-car/index.html

Hi Callum – I really hope so, I absolutely love Back to the Future.

Like all technologies it usually starts off with a few expensive prototypes than only a small number of people can afford. Then as the technology becomes more popular, we can get better and quicker at making that gadget and it develops into something really user friendly.

When I was little, mobile phones were still quite rare. I remember my friend’s older bother buying the first mobile phone that came with a colour screen for £500 and we thought it was amazing! Once the technology developed and phones became more popular and affordable, they got better and better and now I can’t imagine life without a phone.

I think a similar thing will happen with the coats and hover boards you described, but it might take a few more years.
